Welcome to Mrs. Beers's 1st Grade classroom.

 

Mrs. Beers has a bachelors degree from Lock Haven University and received her masters from Wilkes University.  She has taught for 18 years.

 

Our first grade curriculum consists of Everyday Mathematics; Wilson's Fundations for phonics; Rigby Series of books for guided reading; and Science It's Elementary.  Our science units from FOSS and/or Carolina Biological Supply Company consist of weather, solids and liquids, and organisms.

 

Homework in first grade consists of Home Links from our math series, phonics practice, and Take Home Books to practice reading along with other books they should be reading at home.

 

Each year first grade participates in the Pizza Hut Book-It program.  This program runs from October until March.  The student will be required to read four books per a month to earn a Pizza Hut coupon for a personal pan pizza.

 

The school participates in the Box Tops for Education.  Box Tops are collected all year long.   Your summer savings can be sent to school in the fall.  The school has earned over $10,000.00 dollars from this program.  All the monies have been used to purchase school items or for school activities.
