Accelerated Reader is a popular and successful reading program that we use here at Canton High School. Students are given an assessment to determine their individual reading level, then are guided towards selecting books at their level that match their comprehension needs and individual interests. Students read the text, then take an online quiz to accumulate points and test their understanding of the novel. Variety in our school library is a must, and students can choose fiction or nonfiction, and specificallly match the plot of the books to their interests. A total of 20 accumulated points or 10 quizzes passed at their level over a span of one marking period will earn them a perfect score on their A.R. requirement, as long as their comprehension score on the assessment is 70 % or higher, per Canton High School Excellence standards.
