The Canton Area Elementary School serves approximately 550 students in rural north central Pennsylvania. The school is located in Bradford County, but the students live in Bradford, Lycoming, and Tioga counties.
Canton Elementary is the only elementary school in the district, and it serves students in kindergarten through sixth grade. Currently, there are 28 regular classrooms ranging from three to five per grade level. Average class size is 20 students per class.
The original school was built in 1971 with additions and renovations being done in 1978 and in 1997.
Our students enjoy special classes in art, library, gym and music, and they also have excellent technology opportunities and classes.
Core curriculum areas include balanced literacy, Everyday Math (K-5), and Science: Its Elementary. Students in grades 3-6 participate in the Accelerated Reader program.
We have an excellent music program with opportunities for students to participate in orchestra (grades 3-6), band (grades 4-6) and chorus (grades 4-6).
Various opportunities in sports are offered either through the school or the community.
Title I services in reading and math and other tutoring opportunities are given to students who are in need of extra support in these areas.
Parent-teacher communication is encouraged through parent-teacher conferences twice per year, Open House, monthly newsletters, access to teacher e-mail, etc.
The Canton PTA is active and does much to provide field trips, incentives, rewards, special assemblies, and awards to our students.
