A message from the Principal, Mr. Wells:

Canton Elementary is implementing several things in order to keep all students and staff as safe as possible during the pandemic that we are a part of.

CAES 2020-21 COVID Updates (Aug. 4, 2020)

**Here are some things that have changed and students can expect when they come to school this year.

  1. Students will enter 3 locations when they enter the school this year.  Busses will be unloading at the main entrance and at the theaterette entrance.  Parent drop off students will enter at the gymnasium.  Upon entering students will have their temperature taken.  Students with temperatures over 100.4 will be taken to a room with a health room assistant and their parent will be called to pick them up.
  2. Students will be expected to have and wear face coverings on busses, when transitioning within the building, and any time that they can’t maintain 6 ft. of social distancing. Some classrooms will be set up so that face coverings can be removed when students are at their desks, but some classrooms will not allow for this.  Breaks will be provided for students to remove their face coverings throughout the day.
  3. Students will be eating breakfast and lunch at least 6 ft. from other students. They will be eating in the cafeteria, gymnasium lobby, and in some instances in classrooms to maintain this social distance.
  4. Students will be using lockers as they have in the past.
  5. Many teachers’ rooms have changed this year. Some teachers will be teaching our online students this year.  Many of our room changes have been made in order to allow students to remove face coverings while at their desks in classrooms.
  6. Traditional water fountains will not be accessible. They have been replaced with motion activated water bottle filling stations.
  7. Students will be expected to bring their own water bottles to use throughout the day.
  8. Homerooms will be announced the week of Aug. 10 after the registration for the Warrior Academy has been completed.
  9. Sanitization of all items that students utilize after each use (sharpener, calculators, desks, seats, etc.) using district provided supplies including, hand sanitizer, rags and disinfectant.
  10. Visitors will be very limited during the 2020-21 school year.  Visitors will not be allowed to eat lunch or visit classrooms as they have in the past.
  11. It is recommended that students bring in a small paper or plastic bag to school each day so that they have a place to put their face covering when they can take them off.
